Interlude is a browser extension with no accounts, no backend, and no server of any kind. This page explains exactly what that means in practice, so you don't have to take our word for it on faith.

What Interlude collects

Nothing leaves your device. The only information Interlude has is whatever you choose to give it directly inside the extension: the sites you add, the category you assign them, any one-line reflections you write, your fast settings, and basic local counts used for your own weekly and yearly summaries. None of it is collected, transmitted, or visible to us. There's nowhere for it to go, since Interlude has no server to send it to.

Where it's stored

Everything is saved using your browser's own local storage (chrome.storage.local in Chrome, the equivalent in Firefox), directly on your computer. It never syncs to any account, ours or Google's or Mozilla's, and it never touches a network request. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it immediately and permanently.

What Interlude never does

No accounts or sign-in of any kind
No cloud sync, no servers, no database
No analytics or usage tracking inside the extension
No ads, and no selling or sharing of data, because none is ever collected to sell or share
No access to your browsing beyond the specific sites you've chosen to add

Permissions, explained plainly

Interlude only ever runs on the exact domains you add yourself. It does not request access to every site you visit, and it never has the ability to see, read, or interact with any site you haven't explicitly added. The one browser permission it uses is local storage, so your settings and reflections persist between sessions, entirely on your own device.

This website is not the extension

This page you're reading right now, interludeapp.org, is a separate marketing website, not the extension itself, and it does use standard web analytics (Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel) to understand traffic to this site. Those tools set cookies, but they only load after you actively accept the cookie banner shown on your first visit, they never load automatically. You can decline, and nothing loads at all. They have no connection whatsoever to the extension or to anything you do inside it. The privacy guarantees above apply to the Interlude browser extension specifically.

Children's privacy

Interlude is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, since the extension doesn't collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If anything here ever changes, meaningfully, we'll update this page and the date above. Given the extension has no backend by design, there isn't much room for that to happen, but we'd rather say so plainly than leave it unstated.
